Each home and business within the District is connected to the public sewer system by a lateral pipeline. This pipeline runs underground across your property transporting the discharge from your sinks, toilets, and drains into the main sewer line in the street. The lateral line exclusively serves your property and is maintained by and belongs to the property owner. The District personnel and its contractors are not permitted to go onto private property to inspect nor to correct problems with the lateral line, but can help locate the location of the lateral line connection to the main sewers. In fact, the District has implemented a computerized mapping system through a cooperative grant program from the Orange County Sanitation District, which enables us to provide a variety of mapping information.

The District maintains all common sewer lines, which are the main lines that run down the center of the street. The District is responsible for the cleaning, inspection, repair, and maintenance of the main sewer lines. The work is outsourced to a variety of specialized contractors who are experts in their field. The main sewer lines receive the wastewater discharge from all the lateral lines, transporting the sewage to county trunk lines which eventually carry waste to the county treatment facilities.

The District office is open Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to assist you with question pertaining to the location of your lateral line. The District maintains a 24 hour on-call service for emergencies involving the main sewer lines in the public access areas.
